This testing is for students who need to complete the following placement exams that are only offered on campus in a paper format: Music Theory, Latin, Russian, and Portuguese.

9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Swanson School of Engineering Family Information Session
This welcome session is intended to help participants plan their PittStart experience and provide answers to questions around the multiple session opportunities PittStart provides. Please join us to meet your new classmates and begin considering the transition decisions all first year engineers face as they join the Swanson School of Engineering family.

10 a.m. – 10:20 a.m. PittStart Check-In
You can officially check in for your PittStart session at this time. If you do not have a smartphone to utilize the Guidebook App, you can pick up a hard copy of the finalized agenda and other important materials here. We encourage all PittStart participants to check in at this time if you wish to participate in all Day One events.
Extended PittStart Check-In will be available until 5 p.m. in the Alumni Hall Ballroom for those students unable to check in between 10 a.m. and 10:20 a.m.

Meet Pitt Pathfinders to learn how to get involved on campus and make the most of your Pitt experience.


11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Engineering Your Way to Medical School
This session is strongly recommended for engineering students interested in the health professions and will be conducted by one of Pitt’s pre-health advisors. Learn about the path to medical school and how to integrate pre-health requirements with the engineering curriculum.
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Lunch Break
Grab a bite to eat at one of the many on or off-campus eateries with the complimentary $8 on your Panther Card (University ID). Eat with the Pathfinders or venture on your own. Restaurant options are available in the Guidebook app.
1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. University Resource Fair
Stop in and talk with representatives from various University departments.
1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. Make-Up Online Placement Exams (For students only)
This testing is for students who need to complete the following online placement exams: Math, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
1:30 p.m. - 2:20 p.m. Eat, Sleep and be Panthers
Panther Central is the University’s concierge service provider and your go-to place for all the essentials of daily living on campus, from Pitt IDs and housing, to meal plans and transportation.
2:30 p.m. - 3:50 p.m. Managing Student Finances
Every student and parent needs to understand how to pay for college. Student Financial Services Staff and Financial Aid Counselors will share payment options, due dates, financial aid requirements, and financial literacy tips. All student attendees will have the opportunity to win a $500 Book Award for the University Store on Fifth!
4 p.m. - 4:50 p.m. Student Computing Essentials
Join members of the Pitt IT department to obtain helpful information on Campus Computing Labs, Internet connectivity, important websites (e.g. course listings and software downloads) and your student email/financial accounts.
5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Student Affairs: Life on Campus
In this entertaining presentation, you will meet your 2018 First Year Mentors as they act out everyday situations on college campuses. Break-out discussion sessions with the Mentors and University staff will follow the performances.
6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Student Dinner
Whether you are staying on campus for your PittStart session or commuting from home – come join your classmates and the Pitt Pathfinders for some food and fun!
7:30 p.m. - 10:15 p.m. Social Activities
The Pathfinders are planning activities and entertainment to help you make new friends and Pitt memories. More detailed information on the events, times, and locations will be available when you arrive on campus.
10:30 p.m. Curfew and Floor Meetings
If you are staying in the on-campus overnight accommodations, you will have a mandatory floor meeting with the Pathfinders at 10:30 p.m. Check signs around your building or ask a Pathfinder to find the location.

8:30 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. Swanson School of Engineering Advising Meeting
Mandatory for Swanson School of Engineering Students
The Swanson School of Engineering First-Year Program staff will introduce students to the undergraduate curriculum in the First-Year Engineering Program. This session will prepare students for their group registration meetings with advisors later today.

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Registration Appointments
Mandatory for Swanson School of Engineering Students
Group registration appointments with your PittStart advisor will occur at this time. Advising appointments and locations are ONLY assigned during the 8:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Advising Meeting, so be sure NOT to miss that meeting. Advisors and Peer Advisors will be available to answer questions and help guide students through the fall registration process.
11 a.m. – 5 p.m. PittStart Check-Out
All students must check out of their PittStart session to ensure that you have completed all necessary tasks before leaving campus. Submit your PittStart survey via the Guidebook app, and get a free PittStart t-shirt at Check-Out!
